Invitation: Lake Simcoe/South-eastern Georgian Bay Science and Stewardship Forum

Event Invitation

Lake Simcoe/South-eastern Georgian Bay Clean-up Fund
Science and Stewardship Forum
January 25-26, 2017
Venue to Be Confirmed, Barrie

In 2012, the $29 million, 5-year Lake Simcoe/South-eastern Georgian Bay Clean-Up Fund (the Fund) was established by the Government of Canada to address water quality issues and research needs in these two freshwater systems. The Fund has supported 111 projects that focus on improving environmental information for decision making, enhancing aquatic habitat, and reducing nutrient loading.  These projects have had beneficial environmental impacts and will provide valuable data and information regarding the Lake Simcoe and South-eastern Georgian Bay watersheds.

As a stakeholder, resource manager, recipient, or academic with interests in the Lake Simcoe and/or Georgian Bay area, we invite you to join us for a Science and Stewardship Forum.  The Forum will provide an opportunity to network with other stakeholders in the area and to learn about and discuss the state of the watersheds within the Fund area, results of research, on-the-ground projects, and future threats and needs.  A detailed agenda will be provided in early January.

Importantly, if you were financially supported by the Fund, we want to hear from you - what did your research show and what were the successes and challenges of your stewardship projects?  This is your opportunity to share your project results and findings with those most interested in hearing.  Please let us know if you are able to provide a short presentation (10-15 minutes) of your work.

Please email Deborah.Silver@canada.ca to confirm your attendance at the Forum by November 30, 2016. Space is limited – please register early!
