Bringing the Blue Flag to Lake Simcoe Workshop

On behalf of Environmental Defence Canada and the City of Barrie, you are invited to a workshop, Bringing the Blue Flag to Lake Simcoe, to discuss why the Blue Flag should be raised on Lake Simcoe’s beaches.  Blue Flag is a highly respected international eco-label awarded to beaches and marinas that meet strict criteria for water quality, environmental education, environmental management, safety and services.

The workshop will be an interactive day examining the environmental and economic benefits of implementing the Blue Flag program. The agenda includes presentations from:
  • Tim Krusl, Senior Program Manager of the Ontario Ministry of Environment on the Lake Simcoe Protection Plan
  • Brad McConnell, City of Barrie Marina, on Blue Flag and the City of Barrie Waterfront Plan
  • Rachel Dodds, Associate Professor at Ryerson University about the economic impacts of beaches
  • John Fisher, Park Superintendent at Wasaga Beach Provincial Park, about sustainable beach management
  • Michael Shane, Safety Management Director of the Lifesaving Society about how Blue Flag upholds the Waterfront Safety Guidelines

Due to your expertise in the region, we sincerely hope you will be able to join the discussion on raising the Blue Flag in the Lake Simcoe watershed.
