The
Huronia Food Trail will be dedicated to offering locally grown and/or produced epicurean products and experiences to local consumers and tourists, increasing the economic viability of both the agriculture and food service industry. It will also contribute employment according to Michael Chan, Minister of Tourism, Culture & Sport.
“This high quality culinary experience showcases all the regional flavours Ontario has to offer. Encouraging local tourism in this unique way generates jobs and contributes to the economic prosperity of communities across Ontario.”
Members of the Huronia Food Trail will include local farms/producers, restaurants, bed & breakfasts and resorts and attractions who meet specific criteria. All must be tied to local food experiences. Visits to local businesses will be encouraged through a bilingual web site, social media and through printed materials.
Huronia Food Trail is supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport, Tourism Simcoe County, Regional Tourism Organization (Bruce, Grey, Simcoe) (RTO7), and the municipalities of Tiny and Tay. Simcoe County Farm Fresh is hoping that this pilot project will provide a good model for future agri-culinary trails in all of Simcoe County. Responses to the project are already very favourable, as we prepare for a launch date of Spring 2013.
