Ontario Supporting Festivals and Events in Simcoe County

Ontario is supporting festivals and events in Simcoe County that will draw tourists, create jobs and grow the local economy.

Through the Celebrate Ontario 2014 program, the province is helping seven festivals and events in Simcoe County that celebrate the region's diversity, heritage and culture, while enhancing the visitor experience and increasing attendance.

Local festivals and events receiving support include:
  • The Festival of Peace
  • The Mariposa Folk Festival
  • 2014 International Plowing Match & Rural Expo
  • The Collingwood Elvis Festival
  • Carve This Way! Collingwood Ice Sculpture Festival
  • Jazz On The Mountain At Blue
  • Wakestock Sports and Music Festival
Helping local festivals and events grow and thrive is part of the government's economic plan that is creating jobs for today and tomorrow. The comprehensive plan and its six priorities focus on Ontario's greatest strengths -- its people and strategic partnerships.

  • In 2014, the Ontario government will provide more than $600,000 to support Celebrate Ontario festivals and events in Simcoe County.
  • In 2011, there were 12.7 million visits to BruceGreySimcoe, and these visitors spent $1.2 billion dollars.
  • In 2012, tourism supported over 300,000 direct and indirect jobs in Ontario.
  • Preliminary numbers for 2012 indicate that tourism generated $28 billion for Ontario’s economy.
