Since it’s inception in 2014, The Silver Goose Cyclocross in Midland, Ontario has made promoting equality between men’s and women’s cyclocross a focal point of the event. As the host of Pan American Cyclocross Championships, the event promoter, CykelHaus Race Promotions, has confirmed their application to the UCI for a derogation to put the women’s race as the marquee event of the weekend has been approved.
“We’re extremely excited to have the elite women take the final race of Pan Am Championships” says Event Director, John Hauser. “To the best of my knowledge, this may be the first ever Continental Championships in any cycling discipline to have the women in the marquee spot. It wouldn’t have happened without the guidance and assistance of Brook Watts, he’s been a major help in getting us prepared to host Canada’s first Pan American Cyclocross Championships. Elite women from across the America’s are currently putting in the best results in international cyclocross competition, just look at the World Cup season openers in Waterloo and Iowa. I think this shows that putting women on top for the Pan Am’s is well deserved” adds Hauser.
You can catch the Pan American Cyclocross Championships via live stream on Cyclocross Magazine Saturday November 3 and Sunday November 4. The elite women’s continental championships will start Sunday @ 3:45pm. You can also take in the event live in Midland, Ontario (just 1.5 hours North of Toronto) on the shores of beautiful Georgian Bay.
In addition to hosting Canada’s first ever Pan American cyclocross championships, and putting women in the top spot for the first time, the event will also host the first ever Masters Pan American Championships for atheltes age 35+.
