RTO7's Week in Review for November 20, 2015

With expanded dates and a new format, Pumpkinferno at Discovery Harbour was a huge success in October.  Over 6200 visitors attended the event, which took place every weekend during October, including Halloween night.  Economic impact for Simcoe County was significant, estimated at $502,611, including food, beverage and accommodation.   The marketing campaign was developed in partnership with RTO7, the Town of Penetanguishene, Tourism Simcoe County and Huronia Historic Parks.  Breakfast Television’s “Live Eye” visited the site on October 23rd, reaching 500,000 viewers.  Sainte-Marie among the Hurons’ popular First Light event has been expanded to two weekends – November 26-28 and December 3-5 – with a fireworks display added as a new feature.
 
The Ontario Tourism Awards of Excellence were presented in early November and several of the award recipients are from BruceGreySimcoe.  Congratulations to our award winners!!
 
  • Bruce County Tourism, Tourism Marketing Campaign Under $25,000 for its Adventure Passport Program
  • Colin Field, Clarksburg, Travel Media Photography Award for his photo of a downhill skier taken at Blue Mountain, which appeared in Blue Mountain magazine
  • Mariposa Folk Festival, Tourism Industry Association Award of Excellence for Sustainable Tourism
  • Don Braden, Tourism Industry Awards of Excellence Lifetime Achievement Award (awarded posthumously), president of Blue Mountain Village Association

And, three BruceGreySimcoe producers were recognized recently with Premier’s Awards for Agri-Food Innovation Excellence.  Regional award winners were Bighead Hops near Meaford and the New Farm, Creemore.  Clear Valley Hops, Nottawa, received the Minister’s Award for developing an efficient process to produce unique, high-quality hops that reduces the time from harvest to freezing to 24 hours.  For more information on these and other award winners, read the News Release.

  • OTMPC’s Holiday Campaign – now underway, “Give the Gift of Ontario” puts the focus on digital marketing supported by the distribution of over 345,000 print copies throughout Ontario and Quebec.  For the US market, (New York City, Detroit, Philadelphia, Buffalo and Pittsburgh), 875,000 copies of “Give the Gift of Ontario Canada” are to be distributed.
  • TIPP Now Accepting Applications for 2016 campaigns.  Deadline to submit applications for the Tourism Industry Partners Program is January 15, 2016 for the spring/summer campaign (April 1 to August 31).  For the fall/winter initiatives (September 1 to March 31, 2017), the deadline is June 3, 2016.  For program information, contact Nicole Papineau at 416-212-1886 or Nicole.papineau@ontario.ca.  Applications are available through Grants Ontario.
  • 2016/17 Partnership Opportunities – Leverage OTMPC’s marketing initiatives and take advantage of a wide variety of available partnership opportunities.
 
Blue Mountain Resort will be the first “out-of-USA” venue for the Obstacle Course Racing World Championships being held in partnership with 365 Sports.  The event takes place October 15 to 16, 2016.  Read more….
